What is Gum Recession?

Gum recession is a common dental condition where the gum tissue surrounding the teeth wears away or pulls back, exposing more of the tooth or its root. The root surface of the tooth is exposed and this area may have increased sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods

To prevent gum recession or worsening of gum recession it is important to use a soft or extra soft bristle toothbrush, preferably an electric toothbrush. As well as, avoid abrasive toothpastes such as whitening tooth pastes and habits such as holding tobacco products, nicotine pouches, or foods like sunflower seeds near the gums. Traditional treatments for Gum Recession involved surgical procedures that would graft gum tissue over these roots.
